First time out in a few months. Figured I try my luck a my local BSA camp this afternoon. Normally I prefer the older sites but they are inaccessible this time of year. Nothing real special just thought it would be nice to make a post of my finds and possibly get some encouragement for a next hunt. Here is my take for the day. 1957 quarter, two pocket knives, Webelos pin and a pin of a bear standing. Five woggles, oh and the pliers are sorta neat, they have the BSA insignia on them. 006.webp 004.webp 005.webp 002.webp

Cool digs!, Sweet Washington

that pair of pliers looks very collectable

Thanks for the input! Just went through my pile of pennies and found three wheat's. A 1951, 46, and 56. Another interesting fact is my 1870's map shows a structure on this land. Normally I am good at finding these sites with the detector. Its just so thick with brush in areas you cant even walk let alone swing a detector..

Great hunt. I know of an old scout camp near me. It hasn't been used since the 60's. I've been thinking about getting permission for the site and your post makes me want to do it soon. It's about half mile off a country rd I use to ride my atv there back in the 80's. I'm sure it's all grown over with grass rite now so will be a fall hunt. Can't wait.

Sounds like the camp near you would or should be a productive spot if it was stopped being used in the 1960's and has not been detected much. The camp I hunt at was used from the 50's till about 2000. I guess some BAS camp had more activity then others. Just looking at the size of the old parking lot at my local camp tells me it had a lot of visitors. Must of been able to park 100 cars. That means lots of people = lots of lost goodies!

as far as I know no detectors have been back there. A lot of people don't even know it's there but I like to research my area an found out what it was used for. I remember being back there as a teen and it was very run down then. I drove out past it yesterday and from the rd you can't tell it was ever used for anything now. Just looks like a group of trees that is surrounded by fields on one side and bordered by the river on the other. I found out the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts used it for camping. No buildings left from what I can see but it is a half mile off rd. I'm getting excited may just get permission and try it even though I know it's prob grown over real bad now. My other big hunt I had planned for this year isn't coming together well so might as well go there. I do a lot of detecting but my passion is early sites and finding stuff from my area to donate to historical society. Lots of north West territory Indian war history in my area and I am trying to find artifacts and relics for display. Sry to go on and on but as you can see I love this hobby for the history recovery part of it. Good luck everyone.

Yes this BSA camp is my go to spot when I want to detect and cant get into the older sites. My local camp was huge with buildings the whole nine yards. Today is public land still used for camping and recreation. I thought about donating my finds to the camp, would make a cool display in the main building. For what its worth here are my better finds from last summer. Shows the typical finds that could be made at a BSA camp existing from 1950's - 2000. Good luck with it hope you make some alright finds! 613.webp

I would say those are amazing finds and I would love to have a collection in a display box like that. To me that would deff qualify for a display at historical society in my area. Great finds.

Great hunt, I like the camps
