Today's priority mail find

I found a box marked "priority mail" just on the inside of my gate today. I was hoping it was my new 12.5" sunray coil, but wasn't expecting it until later this week. It was! Not being able to wait, I connected it and went out to a spot that I've hit hard over the past year or so. I consider it to be pretty much cleaned out.

I was hoping to find some nice deep coins that I missed with my stock coil, but I found none. My Fisher CZ goes pretty deep anyway, but I was hoping the little extra capability would turn up a few more keepers. Oh well, I hunted for about 4 1/2 hours and only found a little clad and a button in areas around the bushes and the fence where I haven't scoured over the area well in the past.

I am lucky to even have the coil. Apparently Sunray is not making them for the CZ anymore, due to difficulty getting parts. This coil is supposedly the last one the sunray had, and it was on hold for a certain dealer. I contacted that dealer and bought it from them. It pinpoints about as good as the stock 8" coil did, I still get good discrimination, and the weight isn't bad. It's heavier than the 8" coil, but it's balanced good and wasn't a chore to use even after 4+ hours. It doesn't ground balance where the 8" coil does, but it balances nonetheless. So far, I like it!

happy hunting!

Re: Today's priority mail find

The 12" will definatly help to cover ground more quickly. that's a very nice button you have, too.

Re: Today's priority mail find

you should get some great depth with that coil and I also like that button.

Re: Today's priority mail find

Thanks Y'all,

I think the button isn't very old...maybe the '40s-'50s? It looks like a cuff button off a blazer maybe. There's a hint of gilt left on it, and the back is rusted.

Re: Today's priority mail find

Hi Cheese:

Just a few lines to to say good hunting. I use one of the first 12 proto-type CZ6's made. I got it about 15 years ago and can't find anything better. Here is some info on the depth of your new coil. You will gain about 2+ inches of depth over your small coil. BUT what is really a plus is you gain another 2+ inches of ground coverage at 6 to 7 inches. What this means is that your odds of finding those deeper (6 to 8"or deeper) coins will be alot greater. The signal width of your small coil at 6"'s is only a little less than 2 inches but with your new coil it is about 4 inches. I don't think there is to many hunters that overlap 1 to 2 inches, that is why it is so hard to hunt a place out where there is deep coins.

Keep on diggin

Thats a navy PeeCoat button. Military issue

Re: Today's priority mail find

Diggerfororo,

Thanks...that's encouraging info. A lot of the places I hunt in have already been hit hard in the past, so I have to be better, seek deeper, and disc better than the last guys who detected there. Sounds like this will help. I'm glad to hear you haven't been able to top the CZ6 yet. I haven't found one that I like better than my CZ either. They're good machines, especially for depth.

Navarrone,

Thanks for the ID! I though maybe a navy button because of the anchor, but I found it on a church yard, so I figured it was a blazer button. It's neat to find out it is millitary. Any idea of the age?

Re: Today's priority mail find

Congrats on getting the last made 12in coil for your CZ. Any help with depth is worth the money. I, too, like the button! :D HH and may the detector Gods shine upon you!
