Today's Silver and a Neat Button - ID Help Needed

I tested out a new park today with hopes of finding some more silver. It was hot, but about every 20minutes I went back to the car for another drink.

Even had some cute young girls come up and start hitting on me. They quickly left after 1) they realized I wasn't golfing, 2) I wasn't 16 like they were, and 3) I wasn't interested.

One of the Mercs was in a coin spill with 3 wheats, all stuck together.

Total finds:

4 Mercury Dime - 1920, 1942, 1945 (2)
12 Wheats going back to 1909
Marble
Button that I need IDed. There is some writing on the back that I'm still trying to make out. I don't want to try and do too much cleaning until I have an idea if it's any good or not.

The head on the button is a depiction of Mercury or Hermes, based on a sculpture by Praxiteles. Similar images appear on a number of 19th century classical/mythological motif buttons.

Thanks for the info. I will try to see what it says on the back and combine those two bits of info into a google search.

The maker of the button is:

Eingetr Muster

I'm finding some buttons by this maker, but not any like this one. I will continue my hunt.

What would appear to be the same button— but without any reference to a backmark— appears in the "Mythology" section of Hughes & Lester's buttons book, Plate 172, No. 16, pp. 414-15.

"The head is of brass, applied as an escutcheon to a flat brass back."

Actually, it's not the name of the maker, but an abbreviation of Eingetragen Muster, which is German for, "Registered Pattern," i.e., "Registered Design."

You are one quick and talented individual PBK! Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. And thanks for helping me learn two new german words today! :)

Re: Today's Silver and a Neat Button - ID Help Needed

Glad I could help!

And those are probably the only two German words I know that I'd post! :D

Haha, I knew a German foreign exchange student in high school that taught me a few words. I will refrain from posting them, though. :)

Is this an old park that is no longer in use? I can't imagine finding a park that doesn't have hundreds of recent clad coins and screwcaps and pulltabs 1 to 3 inches deep, that make it seemingly impossible to find any deep older silver coins.

If you pulled out those 4 mercs and all of those wheaties and no clad, then you've found a glory hole for sure. I'd be spending all of my time in that park.

Great finds!!!!! That button is uber-cool.

The park is certainly still in use. The targets all were surrounded by iron and I just had to go slowly and pluck out the good signals. Many turned out to be nails, but as you can see there were a number of coins mixed in as well. And as soon as I would pull out a coin the hole would null out.
