Today's silver triple play
I mentioned in another post that I had made a presentation to the local historical society on Saturday. Two members in attendance offered their property for searching and I was happy to oblige them!
I started a small yard on a corner lot this morning; it has a lot going for it, with sidewalks on two sides. The old high school once stood across the street, so the site has seen lots of traffic. The house itself dates from the 30's, and the current owner grew up in it. He's a Vietnam vet, so he's in his 50's or 60's; I was assured that the property had never been searched with a detector.
My suspicions about the property were confirmed this morning, with a 42S war nickel, 52 Rosey and 63D Washington. We don't find many "S" war nickels around here. I also found four or five wheats (common, late dates) and some clad. I have another morning or two on the site, so I imagine more keepers will show up. I enjoyed the search, obviously, but I also enjoyed talking with Jack, the owner. He knows more about our town than most people and appreciates my interest in learning about it. Some of us "outsiders" are viewed cautiously, but he has been very open to what I do. Jack is also a passionate Pirate fan, which is another thing we have in common. Believe me, for the last fourteen years, that has been difficult. You want irony? Sid Bream lives nearby! Sorry for that obscure reference, but any Pirate fans reading this post will know what that means.
