First off, thanks for the add to the group. I got out today for about two hours at a construction location that I have dug some Civil War bullets and other CW relics but only a couple of buttons. I dug this one today and need some help with an ID and age if known. There does not appear to be any visible markings or backmarks other than what appear to be faint "turn marks"? From my limited knowledge of button ID I am trying to find out if this is what people refer to as a Tombac button or something else. The scratch marks on the front were there as I picked this out of a clod of dirt so bummer but at least it wasn't me, lol.
Thanks for any help! 20200822_224404.jpg

That is a 3rd quarter 18th century tombac button. They could of course been used later in time as someone's replacement button.
