Tonight I'm cleanin out my closet!

While cleaning out my closet I came across an ordinary looking coat hanger, but when I looked at the phone numbers I realized they are only four digits, which places this hanger pre-1910 when the three digit exchanges were introduced.

At the time you would only need to dial a four digit number (five digits if you were in a major city). If you needed a connection outside of your community you needed to dial the operator to connect you to the other communities switchboard. The introduction of the three digit exchange eliminated the need to do this.

In my area, the four digit dates back to the 30's and 40's. I have an old salt/pepper shaker from an Allis Chalmers dealer that went out of business decades ago. Scored it at an auction. One of those neat, odd things that just catch your fancy.
Cool finds!

That's kinda cool. You should use it to hang the stuff you wear to go out detecting.

How about the 1 short and 3 long rings for the country party line phones...

Thats back when our TV was a radio with a big green eye below the dial....

And a guide rope (for winter white-outs) strung between the house mud room and the barn and outhouse...

Think I'll stop while I'm ahead...:laughing7:
