, well done mate, the weather guys have been threatening thunder and lightning here for a few days now, and I have been waiting to get some shots like that. But it's still as dry as a bone, and no sign of a flash of lightning yet, still I can dream

You have a great camera there mate. Try this website for info on shooting lightning, they have a lot of advice for us amateurs, and it's easy to follow, thank God

Guys, I too am new to digital photography and really don't know a bunch yet, but I've been experimenting with stuff! The best part about digital photography is that it doesn't cost anything to snap some shots and then change the settings and then snap some more! You will learn quickly by doing it this way!
Getting good shots of lightning is very simple, at least the way I am doing it! My DSLR settings are Manual mode, Manual Focus, a low aperture number like F/4, Bulb mode, and a tripod! The other thing I do is that I have a remote and I put the setting on my camera to remote. The other thing is I would use as wide of lens as you've got as you will want to cover as much sky as possible. Once all this is set I just snap the shutter open and wait for the lightning............once it strikes, go over and press the remote to close the shutter........
Probably the most important part of the whole thing though is to get somewhere safe while doing this!!!!!
