I stoped by a random bank today and asked if they had any halves. The teller went to another tellers tray and grabed all $11 and handed them to me. I immediately saw a ton of silver edges. The male teller whoes halves were given away came back and sold them to me, but he did not have a happy look on his face.

Total haul was 9 40%ers.

hahaha. I had this happen too.

I scored 2 Franklins, 1 40%, and a gold plated clad from the teller's tray next to the teller I was dealing with.

I knew the teller whos tray they were in bc I go in there all the time. "Can I have the halves in Kevin's tray too (while he went to the back).?"

SCORE!!! LOLOLOL.

good job on yours.

If the guy was unhappy that is his fault. Not sure but a friend of mine used to work in a bank and he'd ask the manager if he could take certain good coins if he obviously gave the correct amount back. Maybe you have to put them aside and wait til your shift is over to make the swap? I'm sure they probably don't want you switching money back and forth during your shift.

great haul! i do that all the time lol :tongue3:

once had the opposite happen, asked the teller if they had any halves she pulled out a handful, plucked the clad from the silver and said here ya go. $1.50 worth. Out of a hang full of silver.
I asked about the silver ones, she said not for sale...oh well.

I have been waiting for this to happen to me. Because I want to use the line....

"Excuse me "maam/sir", I am the customer here, we're not going to have problems are we???" And then just look them in the eye and wait for next response. O I cant wait...

Most banks I go to the tellers also have drawers for their bills and if they really wanted to hide the halves or any other silver they actually wanted to keep, they could do this by putting in the drawer out of site. I think the times you see silver in the teller tray they actually don't know what it is, don't care what it is, or they are trying to push a point accross to whoever asks about it that it belongs to them. There's no reason that they should flaunt it when they have no intention to get rid of it.

I agree wih GH, just let them tell me that one time.... ;D

Not for sale? If you wanted them you should be able to get them, you are the customer. Probably just trying to show them off or had plans to buy them after work? Not sure if they can buy out of their drawer during work time? If you complained it wouldn't help your relationship with that bank so definitely not worth it.
