It's amazing what a little insignificant piece of metal like a tool tag can lead to. I found this tag this afternoon after work and after cleaning it up a bit, did a bit of research as I've never heard of this refinery. (Roxana Petroleum Co.) The back of the tag is carved with the name "Joe".

I found that it was a part of the Shell Oil Co. back in the 20/30's and there was a refinery about 20 mi. north of me that was torn down and remidiated by the EPA Superfund.

ARKANSAS CITY ROXANA PETROLEUM CO JCT OF ARKANSAS & WALNUT RIV KSD980631899

I figured that was it and nothing else but a closed book on the history of the company. Then I saw something else in the research of the name. Lo and behold, it gave me the name of a ghost town south of me where the rock school bldg. and frame store bldg. remain.

Thanks for looking

Stoney that is indeed an interesting tag find.
Hope you take a trip soon to the ghost town and post your finds.
Never know where the research will lead you.

It's a sign.
Now you have to go there and hunt that place!

That certainly is an interesting tag, congratulations! :)

Interesting find, there must be some old coins in that place too

Good luck hunting

Great tag, Stoney, and some super sleuthing, too! WTG!

It must be horrible when a simple find like that turns into such a long drawn out process; like having to find a ghosttown and dig up all those potential targets. If that town site tunrs out to be too much of a burden, you just let me know and I'll....*sigh*....TRY to drive down there and dig it all up for ya. Very cool dig - HH

Thanks guys! The oil field burned and the town which had a population of close to 1,000 moved on leaving the school and store which are all that remain.
gold fish, you're more than welcome to try as it may be too much for one person. I may have to switch to a wheel barrow instead of a pouch. LOL
