Toothache remedy???? Besides pulling it

All good things must come to and end and it is time for that to happen to one of my wisdom teeth. The blame thing started hurting on Saturday which is usually the time they go south...no dentist office open in this neck of the woods on Sat. Well, suffered until Monday and went and saw my dentist. He took the usual xrays and said this would be work for an oral surgeon. He got me in to see him Tues. He did give me a prescription for Motrin 800mg and an antibiotic. The Motrin did nadda for the pain. After seeing the oral surgeon today, it seems he is going to have to wait until TUESDAY of next week, due to the fact that I take aspirin once a day. Now, here comes the question...the tooth really doesn't bother me much during the daytime..only at night...that is why my butt is still up at 4:40am. Does anyone have any clue what to take for this darn pain at night.. I need some darn sleep..I have tried the Orajel..anbisol and even something called clove oil...Still hurts like a ...well still hurts.. I am open for suggestions..heck, I might even be up for milking a rattlesnake if would ease the pain..lol Open for suggestions..

I know that pain, unfortunately nothing short of vicodin will get rid of it.

If there is a crack, you could try dental wax (sold in drug stores/walmart etc) to
plug any gap, that's assuming your drawing air right onto an exposed nerve, causing
the pain. Just chew a small piece like gum to soften it a bit, then pack the opening.

Used that quick-fix while deer hunting one year when I lost a filling, worked better than
any pain killer. Hope this helps.

clove oil will dull the pain .Pharmacy will have some in a small bottle with red cross on it ,Good luck

Call the surgeon back and tell him you're gonna go at it with pliers if he can't find a way to get you in or get another surgeon. If you've got the money, they've got the time.

I'm sure your better by now but for others Peppermint abstract. Put a drop or two on the tooth that hurts. This will dull the pain for sometime.

texastee2007...yep, I was started on antibiotics with the visit to my family dentist on Monday. Clove oil ...tried it and didn't do much for me.

Lowbats...man that thought went through my head a few times but it wasn't that the oral surgeon couldn't get me in sooner, it was because I am on aspirin and he had to wait a certain amount of time to keep my blood loss down.

Nick, I just get a picture of you standing over me with a hammer and chisel...

Thanks for all the suggestions, but I finally found a little pill that did the job. I happen to have just enough to make it through till Tues...btw, I'm gonna ask for that tooth when it comes out..I am gonna make sure I get it under the pillow...dreams of the tooth fairy has already begun..

Cupla questions SC -

Is this pain just on one side of your jaw? And is it causing you to not be able to open your mouth as wide as normal?

If so, than your wisdoms may just be shifting position. That happened to me a few years back and I thought oral surgery was the only solution. After about 10 days the pain subsided and eventually went away all together.

A month or two later the same thing happened on the other side of my jaw, but this time I didn't panic, and sure enough it went away also and I've never had trouble with them since.

I'm not saying avoid professional opinions, but did the dentist even suggest this was a possibility?

Immy... The problem with mine is that the wisdom tooth cracked and exposing the nerve. Getting it out is the only solution for this one. I have finally found that I had a few pain pills that I had after heart surgery and they put me out at night..The clove oil works pretty good during the day, so I think I have got it under control until Tues.

rwsnc...I saw that in Walgreens today and almost picked it up. I have a few more days left and if this clove oil doesn't keep doing the trick I might give that one a shot.

I suspect the clove thing will work. I recall reading something about cloves and toothaches.

Take some Louisianna hot sauce, dip a Qtip in it and dab it on the tooth. Instant pain relief.

Other than pulling it, the one thing that has always worked for me is to put an old style aspirin on it and let it dissolve...the pain relief is almost worth the taste of the aspirin...then again since you are already on a regimen for your heart, the oral surgeon might like that...

This might sound werid,but whole cloves work real well if you can get past the taste,look for them in at a Walgreens store or Whole foods mrkt.,or a healthfood store.
