story kind of sounds fishy. 1400 oz. of gold. how much would that weigh? i remember when the story broke about this guy. he jumped over north Alabama at night. he landed off of his target. i do remember he walked down river to a local residence and gave the guy some cock and bull story about him turning his canoe over. the local guy gave him a ride to a local store. his behavior was so bizare that the local sheriff's dept. was called to check him out. he came back clean at the time because no one was looking for him yet.
i remember he was taken to a local hotel where he got a ride to a nearby storage building unit where he had stashed a motorcycle. he then went to a campground and was caught a few days later by the FBI. strange story. i don't believe he had gold with him. guess it would not hurt to check around the coosa river though. might find some neat arrowheads while looking for the gold.
