Here's an unusual one! ;D I have no idea what these are! :help:

I found this on Thursday afternoon while hunting a farm site, see below for the details!

"I was hunting around some of the field stones that would have been cast aside by the farmer while he was plowing the field. These stones have been in place for a long time as they were covered by heavy moss. I got a good high tone from the pile and started to flip over the rocks and finally found these silver plated triangular pieces buried underneath one of the stones. These pieces are linked to each other and can be moved around, so it's not a brooch. I have no idea what these were, but there's a lot of detail work on them!"

Thanks,
Dave

Those triangles remind me of the metal leaded parts in a stain glass window. Interesting find, Breezie

Thanks for your suggestion Breezie . . . I didn't think about that!
But why make them out of copper and plate them in silver? :icon_scratch: If these were going to be used in a stained glass window these probably would've been made out of lead? :dontknow:

is there any hint of color in the sunken parts? i just have a feeling that they were filled with baked enamel at one time.

Maybe where I think I see solder spots, there was a pin for attaching to dress/shirt? Seems like I remember two triangles being the symbols for some organization?

With that being said, maybe it is a CLOAK clasp. Breezie

Looks like one was fastened permanently and the other hung loose from it.

I thought of that too, but there's only evidence of this at one point and upon closer inspection, it's only corrosion.

Hi Dan,
I have a 10x loop that I use and there's no sign of anything ever being on this other than the plating.
Thanks, Dave

I just don't think it was a clasp or a pin . . . maybe horse decor? :dontknow:

do the flat recessed areas fit together to make the star of David?

I tried numerous ways to see if these two pieces fit together some way, but to no avail.
Thanks for your suggestion though texastee! :icon_thumright:

I want to say thanks very much to everyone that's helped me with this little mystery! :notworthy:

I decided to give these beauty's a light polish with silver creme polish in the hopes of bringing out more detail.
I then rephotographed them in several different lights and positions . . . I hope this helps. :dontknow:

Thanks again,
Dave

Bait and switch magic trick? Dangle these in front of the audience, palm them away and produce two loose pieces out of thin air!

I took some paper clips and made a shape similar to what you have there and it does make the Star of David....try this, the little bars go to the inside of the points, hope the picture helps.

Wow! Thanks for all your work that you did on this for me texastee! :icon_thumright:

The only problem I see with that is there needs to be two more solder points in the star to link the pieces together!? :icon_scratch:

Thanks bud!

I think it's a puzzle game and isn't supposed to be soldered together. Things like puzzles, games and chocolate coins are often given to children during Hanukkah.

Could your item have something to do with the "uniform rank" of the Knights of Pythias?

I also think this is probably some sort of Jewish holiday gift. Can you unlink them? Think of the magic trick where you can link the unbroken metal rings. Is that possible with these items?
