A low cost, low tech method of using fishing line with some tin cans attached will also do for short range detection. You can't hear the tin cans for long distances though. It works good as a perimeter detection system around a campsite. It will alarm you to the presence of animals and humans alike if set close to the ground. Even better is a bell, which will ring at the slightest touch in most cases. The only downside is that wind can play havoc with these systems. Wind gusts can cause the string to vibrate severely is not drawn taught. Good Luck. rockhound

I prefer using the human scream alarm myself,as they fall into a Malaysian man pit.
