Nice lead there Jeff,

There is an article about 10 years before he died, where he went to sleep and woke up while someone was stealing his watch. Think amount missing is $1600 at time of death. Small Town NW Montana

I had a article but for some reason I can not insert image.

Now according to his will he had $1600 entrusted to a fellow, who was a banker and claimed no knowledge of the money. This caused some to believe that it was buried on the property. The will also stated who inherited the property, and gave the lot, township description so one can find the exact location today. If it was buried it should be worth checking into.
