Trying to Decide on Next Detector

I think the Sovereign is good. I owned a excal II some years ago and both are pretty much the same machine electronically.

I have been trying to decide between three different machine.

Sovereign GT
Tesoro Sand Shark
Whites Surf PI Duel Field

I live in SW Florida near the beaches and all I want to do is hunt them with a machine that doesn't care about moisture and water. My current machine which I wont mention has a mental

break down around water.

Maybe some of you folks here could share some of there thoughts.

I'm using the Garrett AT Pro. Great detector so far. Waterproof up to 10'

It's hard to beat the Excalibur if you want discrimination. If you want to dig everything with the PI unit, all the major brands make a good one. The Sov should work great on the beach and shallow water. It's just not waterproof so you can't get it wet. Otherwise, it should be nice and stable in the wet, mineralized sand.

I think they are all good machines, but I think I'm leaning toward the sand shark. The only draw back I have read about it is the short battery life while in use. Seems to be less than twenty minutes. Does anyone have any personal experience with this?

If you are intending to hunt salt water beaches or saltwater, you don't want the Tiger Shark. It is pretty much a freshwater machine. The sand shark is also made by Tesoro and is a better choice since it is a PI and can handle salt without falsing.

Yes, it does have a salt setting, but still isn't stable using it. You might get more stability reducing the detectors sensitivity, BUT, this control is inside the Tiger Shark control box , and fiddling with it is not recommended. The Tiger Shark is an absolutely awesome freshwater detector, but there are far better choices for sea hunting.

I love my SandShark. Also have the SovGt - have to turn down the sensitivity in the water and when it rains for the GT, but it discriminates, where the SS doesn't. Shark is a bit heavier, but I'm getting used to it, have the 10" coil, great on the wet sand, wouldn't use it on the dry sand, that's why I use the GT - when I'm covering lots of ground and want to stay in the dry sand and waters edge. Some-day's I wish I had just gotten an Excalibur, but with 2 machines, I have a backup and if my kids want to go, they can take the other.

Make a list of your pros and cons of each and go with best suits you.

I have been using the Sand Shark for about a year and battery life has never been an issue. My hunts lat at least 3-4 hours every time out. Only change batteries every 40-50 hours.

I use a surf pi pro. If your going pi be prepared to dig a lot of crap. The pi does a good job on salt water beaches.

I just pulled the trigger on a sand shark. I was on the fence about getting a pi unit, but it seems like most sucsessful water hunters use one. There are some good deals on ebay
