For the gold finders,
Those of you who turn in your gold finds for scrap money-where do you turn it in and what % of the spot price do they give you? I turned in all my recent gold finds yesterday and got about 70% of the spot price. I did so at a local jeweler. I figure it was not too bad but was disturbed that the jeweler lied to me about his rate when I got home and went over the calculations of what he said they give versus what he actually gave me. I am debating whether to call him on the carpet for it or not. If he made an honest mistake, so be it, but if he lied, I won't do business there again.
Thanks, in advance, for any info. you can provide in scrapping gold.
Take care, all,
Turtleman

Most seem to use Midwest Refineries; you can find them with a Google search plus their website has a daily chart of the precious metals prices.

They pay 94% of spot on gold on the day your order is processed. I have used them several times and I can't complain.

Ditto on the Midwest Refineries at 94% spot at the time of processing. I am lucky to have them only a short distance from me and can visit. http://www.midwestrefineries.com/gold.htm

Jewerlers are out to make a profit and it is at your expense. I have no trouble with someone wanting a profit, but it has to be reasonable.

I was curious and walked in one place that advertised for buying gold. I asked them what percent of spot they were paying and they said they didn't know what spot was. I turned around and left. Many sell their gold at pennies on the dollar at such places like at flea markets.

.......Sandman..... the next time i sell some i will use Midwest thanks for the info.I am not a collector i like to hunt and when i get some good finds i sell them if it is something really nice or worth something i take a picture of it then sell it. To me it does not do me any good if i can not sell it............I like the hunt & i like the cash.........................==Jim==

Jim, I too should sell more of my gold rings and scrap. I usually unload them selling them whole as you can get more than scrap gold prices if they aren't beat up. I also have a grand daughter that has discovered jewelry so if it makes her happy, I am happy.

When you've been combing the beaches and swim areas for many years the stuff really adds up. I do remember some nice rings that I no longer have cause I sold them. But they hardly do me any good setting in a bank box where ya can't show them off to family.

Sandman,Dennis....I use to be a collector and all i could do was look at it ..It did me no good.So i started selling it then it did me good If it was a nice piece i would take a pitcure of it then i could look at it....Like with your grand daughter if one of my girls or grand kids liked it a lot i give it to them. And if they did not care for it .....it was Money in my pocket....And i sell all my coins..............But i love to hunt looking for the mother load......or the big find......But still have not found enough to completely retire on.......Just semi retired...................==Jim==
