To me it is like the wood working shows. You have the remodelers that flip houses and I go nuts at the crappy cheesy work they perform so I can't bring myself to watch them.

Then you change channels and see Norm Abram cutting tenons by hand with a freshly sharpened Buck Brothers chisel. Ahhhhhh!

We have yet to have a Norm Abram in a metal detecting show. Metal detecting is an art we all try to master.

Oh, I know what you mean! When those shows first started coming out, I watched them, but after a couple episode of painting wallpaper, carpeting hardwoods, and laying countertops over existing counters I was wanting to scream so I quit watching.

Yelling 'Juice', 'Colon', 'Roundness', 'Boom Baby', (etc.)

pretty sure they act the way they do because that is what the network executives tell them to do I enjoy watching their show just for the fact that it is about metal detecting, albeit amateurish... it's mindless entertainment and a guilty pleasure, I suppose! Really, it just fills a bit of a void when I'm not able to be out detecting myself. Yes, like most detectorists, I'm not a fan of the overall message/effect of these shows... they make it look easy and don't educate people on best practices/ethics, etc. I'm not exactly thrilled at the prospect of hordes of new detectorists emerging as a result of the show, either... as we all know, it's a dog eat dog world out there! But hey... let's look at the bright side. Most of these weekend warriors will give it up as soon as they realize it isn't as easy as it looks on TV, and the market will be flooded with cheap, lightly used machines! And holy crap... if you think diggers is bad for the cheese factor... I think Dig Fellas has it beat! (yet I still enjoy turning off my brain and watching it from time to time!)

On these metal detecting shows if they act stupid or do not act stupid … Now i am talking about all the metal detecting shows on TV … I do not watch them they bore me i can not take them .. But a lot must still be watching them for they are still on…. Why ones watch them i do not know… As it stands for me i now do not watch metal detecting shows .storage locker shows ,pawn shows , any type of reality shows , they are all phony and boring… I did like shipping wars for i am a truck driver but they put so much crap in that show now that i know is BS that i do not watch that show any more….. All these shows are just a bunch of BS and crap...

Should we ban Top Gear because it makes people drive fast? Ban Ancient Aliens because it makes people get ridiculous hair styles? Ban CNN and Fox News for their political slants? How many amature woodworkers end up in the ER because if norm can do it so can they, right? (And don't even mention Dexter!) Shouldn't the complaints here be about television programs in general? They are all comprised of some form of fiction or BS,(I do a little woodworking and I would like to see Norm's scrap pile of mistakes and outtakes).

So if the indictment is of television in general, which is basically just human communication, should we have any interaction with other people at all? Is the internet 100 percent real, are all T-Net members truthful and without BS? If I talk with someone face to face does that mean they are completely honest with me? Why should TV be any different?

Sheesh, folks! Will the perfect among us please step up to the podium and get your award? I want to see what you look like!

Great post JunkShopnFiddler! I love the shows as they bring interest to the hobby. It has been proven that the sales of detectors have risen because of the interest. All TV shows, and movies, are a bit embellished, but please, please, change the channel if you do not care for them. Get over the old foggie thing that the whole metal detecting hobby will vanish because of a TV show!
Bring them on, and if you are not entertained change the channel or go detecting!
