Hey guys,
I was driving through town and saw a great sign, they were digging up the other side of the town green sidewalks yesterday and Friday. I already hit the oppsite side and although i did get a nice silver pendant nothing else old come up. I decided to try the newly exposed area and hit it low and hard. I was there about 15 min and only got a few wheaties. I moved on alittle and got a solid hit. I pop out an Ih thats real beat. Although it was beat it was still and encouraging find. I moved alittle farther up and I get a very starng signal. Its going from good to mid range and garbage. And the signal is scattered. I dug and away and i see alittle disk thats says One Dime on it. I grab the little coin and see that it is a worn 1902 Barber Dime. The back however is stained from iron. I recheck the hole and there is more. Out comes a decent 1905 Ih and the same hole. This is why the signal was so srewy, there was a nail, an Ih and a Silver in the same hole. This was the first time i ever got two ""Older'' coins in the same hole. I ended the day with a 1916-s Mercury dime. I only hunted for about 45min so il take 4 keepers anyday. I also got what looks to be 7 suspender clips. And alot of these little copper things that look to be the top of two piece buttons.

Those are some awesome find for a 45 min. hunt!! Excellent! Man i love that pendant, it would look sweet with some torquise in it or nice stones!! You could probably have it fixed and make more than silver weight or give to your mom, your girlfriend or wife. I would sure hit that area again hard and heavy! HH Tom

Your vintage pin was made in Taxco Mexico, one of the oldest mining centers in Mexico. Taxco jewelry is very collectible, and some of it is very valuable. I've seen other A. Garcia work using abalone shell inlay. Nice piece, and great coins too. I live in Mansfield CT by the way, not far from you. Good luck in the hunt!

Awesome 45 minute hunt! Great job on the silver dimes and the indian head pennies!

Is that a 1916 Merc? Isn't that a key date or semi key date? I can't remember from the fog of wine last night... :tongue3: jgas

WOW wow WOW wow WOW wow ~ very nice finds! Especially the Barber dime and silver brooch!! VERY COOL!!! WOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!

Great finds. What must be interesting is the feeling you get when you see the mint mark at first before your mind can discern it is an "S".

That's so cool to find coins like those. In my town they ripped up some of the old streets but the same day they had signs up for no tresspassing..

I had hoped that it was a 1916-d for you, I know the difference is around $1200.

I hope you find some more good ones there.

HH

Awesome! Looks like a 1916 D to me!

Your hooks are all from garter belts.

Your town had some very feisty ladies in it apparently.

I agree!!!
And the Art Deco brooch....AWSOME!!!

Thats so cool. Would you happen to know how old the piece is? Thanks for the info.

Hey Keith, I would say it's from the 1940's. Here is a similar piece - same artist, and a description of the piece, and the book where it is showcased.

"A gorgeous abalone shell brooch and screw back earrings set marked with the Eagle 3 mark, 925, A. Garcia, Taxco and Mex. This brooch can be seen in the book Vintage Jewelry for Investment and Casual Wear on page 137 by Karen L Edeen."

The only difference is the Eagle 3 mark. Here is a description of the Eagle 3 mark. "Used from 1948 to 1980, the stamped Mexican eagle followed by a number indicated which silversmith created the piece, however, the numbering system was inconsistent so some artists such as Bernice Goodspeed and Maricela shared the same number "3". Pieces before 1948 would not have an eagle mark. Today, silversmiths are given a mark which consists of a series of letters and numbers such as a "T" for Taxco, an "M" for Mexico City, followed by a letter indicating the initial of the artist's first or last name. For instance, TJ-26 indicates the silversmith is from Taxco, his name begins with the letter J, and he was assigned the number 26 to identify his designs.

Another reference book where the artist is probably listed. 'The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks' by Bille Hougart.

I don't own either of these books, or I'd look it up for you. Hope this helps.

Richard
