two tons of US coins, Brink’s trucks, and no sign of a jumbo load

last February, two shipments of coins — 111 plastic bags of loose change — left BankFive in Brink’s armored trucks, bound for a company in Taunton that processes money for Eastern Bank.


470,000 quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. The coins weigh an estimated 4,317 pounds and, if stacked, would be three times the height of Boston’s Hancock Tower.


“The money never reached us,’’ said Eastern Bank spokesman Andrew Ravens.

LOL, that would take a long time to smuggle out of the warehouse. It's either got to be an elaborate inside job or a major accounting snafoo.

It's probably still sitting right where Loomis put it in one of their warehouse's and it's just mis-labled. Someone will find it in a couple of years when they notice all the dust built up on it.

CRHers are having a field day, and will return the coins they've gone through after they can figure out where to take them!

Doesn't surprise me a bit! I've known a couple guys who worked for Brinks, neither one of them could tie their shoes without an instruction manual. One of these guys lost his clipboard with the records of what came into the dock. From what he said this was the only record until the carts & pallets were sorted.

Can't recall which news crew did it, but they had a lady reporter and photographer walk in the back dock of a Brinks facility. They wandered all around the building for quite awhile and never got questioned or challenged till she walked into the front offices. They didn't detain them, just asked them to leave. Parting shot was three employees standing on the dock looking rather confused.

A couple tons of coin vanishing? I can see it.
