Found at 18 cent plantation. The one is definitely KY related as it has Kentuckys crest on the obverse with "united we stand divided we fall" and of the stamp on the reverse I will have to do some more cleaning but all I can make out thus far is Chicago at the bottom and 'die' as the first word. The second piece as a buffalo or some animal of the sorts on obverse and script writing and symbols on the reverse that I'm clueless to. Any input as to what these are, why and when they were made?

Anyone else have any ideas, leads, theories?

Could you put something with them for size reference. My thought is some type of game piece.

If you look at the second picture down, notice to the left of the item there is the edge of a penny for a size reference.

I am curious if perhaps they were soldered together to form a little pyramid?

Item #2 a Hindu luck amulet?

The animal looks like a Brahma bull. The other side could be a "magic square" with numbers in Hindi or Arabic or something like that. I can't see enough detail to know.

The makers mark is Dieges and Clust. Here is the kicker, my very comprehensive book of badge hallmarks lists Dieges and Clust as badge manufacturers located in NEW YORK from 1915-1950's. No mention of ever have been in Chicago, but that may be information just lost to history. So, this set, probably parts of a ladder or suspension badge, most likely fraternal, most likely Masonic, for a chapter in Kentucky, pre-dates 1915! 100 years old. The street name under the Dieges and Clust looks most like Randolph or Rudolph street. Maybe a Windy City historian can help you out with that! Cool finds, Sub 8-)

Update, just found this on another site:

  • [h=2]Was dieges and clust in Chicago?[/h]
  • Yes on 103 Randolph Street. I have a 1909 AVMA pin made by them there.

I dunno on the other item, maybe a Chinese zodiac thing with an ox?... But only 9 figures on the grid on the back, I'm not sure that makes much sense.

I'm a Freemason and am leaning towards saying it's not Masonic. Are the two men in the first picture shaking hands? If so, it would seem masonic however there are no references to bulls or bovine in any of our degrees.

Strange... I just posted today about 3 'coins' I found on a beach in BC, Canada ... very similar to your second one.

Coins2a.webp

Would love to know more about them.

Strange that two different people are post almost the same thing. There is a lot of symbolism used on both of the pieces. The symbols are different but same principle. The idea is an old one. Used in like a Hindu type horoscope. This piece look more Jesuit or some other order.

I found a bit of information on the ones I have - apparently the 'coin' with the elephant and symbols/writing is some type of a 'Yantra' - "a geometric diagram, or any object, used as an aid to meditation in tantric worship". Some deal with horoscope-type symbols/beliefs. (This is my VERY dumbed down explanation lol). I'm still looking for more info.

This site shows the exact same symbols/writing as my elephant 'coin' http://www.pandit.com/what-is-rahu-yantra-mantra-puja-effect-remedy/
