Ok folks,

I've been holding out on you but as promised a month or so back when I returned to this site after a short (almost a year break away) I have more finds to post ;)

I took a trip to the U.K. (flew across the Atlantic) over the summer for 2 weeks and hunted farm fields, beaches, private properties, etc. and found many coins, and other items (you gotta do it sometime - it was a blast/trip of a lifetime) and also - the OLD finds there are plentiful compared to the U.S. ;D

These are the coins I found at my stay in North Wales (the U.K.) while I was there -- there are silver shillings, silver pence's, silver crowns, copper 1/2 pennies, large pennies, etc. and stuff from the 1700s thru the early 1900s and some that are too beat up to recognize. I also have other items I will post in another thread (relics, buttons, buckles, rings, etc. that I found too) ;)

Enjoy and HH

That's awesome LW! I know that was a blast, I went to Colchester in Nov 04 for a detecting pure week. Did you find any hammered coins? Celtic or Roman relics/coins? I know you have more, show it up buddy!!! My avatar is a silver hammered Elizabeth 1572 I found there, also found two Roman coins in poor condition, but they are Roman and several other finds. HH, Mike

No hammered coins Mike - nothing older than 1790s that is recognizable - that was sort of a dissappointment but it was still fun while there -

I can't decide if I liked the detecting or the U.K. BEER better though! lol

LW,

nice bunch of coins.

Were you just traveling or on one of those
MD'ing tours?

Looking forward for when you post the artifacts.

Again, nice.

have a good un...............

We were on our own Sherman,

we stayed at a lodge/inn type place or (Bunk House) as they call them at Tyddyn Sargent near 2 large lakes in the Welsh countryside. Very beautiful country/land - there was an old (1600s) bunk house/inn on the property still in use that serves good food, and lots of dark beer ;D

Very nice!!!!!!!!. I have way too many questions to ask. What was the Soil Like in england? Were the folks nice whom let you detect on their land? What was the oldest recognisable coin? What was the deepest good target? Someday I will hunt across seas. Very inspiring thread.

As someone mentioned -

the soil was brownish/black and muddy!

It's rather close in comparrision to the soil we have in Michigan here except there's some sort of reddish stuff in it and it is moist as it rains a lot there (at least in the area where we stayed).

The people were nice for the most part - very accomadating to us (I think they like you to spend your $$ in their towns, etc.) as a lot of the econ. in the area we stayed is dependent on travelers, tourist, etc.

Deepest target - I believe it was around 9 inches for a coin - maybe a bit deeper for some of the relics.

I figured you were up to something when you didn't post for so long. Now I see what you were up to and I don't blame you one bit! Very nice indeed. Did you know someone over there or just wing it? Which detector(s) did you take with you?England hasn't converted to the Euro yet have they? I visited Malta once, a former Brit colony and remember asking the price of something and they would say somethng like, "Six and four". I hadn't a clue what that meant so I would just hold out a handful of money and let them take what they wanted! Look forward to seeing more. Monty

Yes - I too had a hard time with the $$ conversion/system Jim,

I basically did the same as you - hold out a handful of coins and they would point to which ones and how many! lol I was glad to exchange it all back in for our U.S. $$ upon return and not have to deal with any of that anymore!

I guess you choose it for the fishing & the really cheap boarding fees (WOW only ÂŁ9 a night, I can't buy lunch for that). Next time if you want older stuff I can help. I would guarantee more than 1 roman coin in a week & 1 hammered if lucky. Not that I would let people on my land, but I could tell you the areas to go. Norfolk accounts for 40% of all UK finds. Thats where you want to be. Suffolk, Cambs and so on....

Hey Lonewolfe, I see at the bottom of the bottom picture is an old South African 3D, did you find that there also? Sounds like a great trip to me, as a kid, I used to love the big English Penny,,,,, I used to change my Shilling to 12 Pennies, it just looked a lot more ::)

God bless
Peter

All coins were found while hunting the area/countryside on our stay/trip. Many were found along beachside areas and were easy diggin targets!

Way to go, Lonewolf! Yeah, how did you get your "datecta" across the sea? You da dude, dude! HH! :D
