I did not know that 7 of them have been shot down! I saw my first one in 1957.Didn't know what it was,just got a glimpse through the hanger doors at LoringAFB.It wasn't until Powers was shot down that we knew what it was.

We lost one when I was in Korea in the early 90s... I never did hear if they knew why it went down over the sea of japan... it was the guy's third mission.

A Korean fisherman found the cockpit/capsule and the pilot's body was recovered...

Anyway - very cool planes to watch... very cool.
