Today me, my dad, my grandpa, and my grandpa's cousin set out to check a field in search of civil war relics. We ended up finding nothing and decided to hit a small field next to it that looked like a house spot. For about an hour we only found early 20th century brass when finally I pop a plug and see it. A small bent gold coin. I freaked out and we cleaned it and figured out it was a 2.5 dollar. It's in horrible shape and was clearly in a fire because of the bubbles and it being bent. Excited from finding my first gold coin i took a break knowing if there's another i want my dad to find it because he's never found one either. Sure enough, he comes walking towards us with a smile on his face and gold in his hands. His is a perfect 2.5 dollar with every bit of detail remaining and an 1861 date. We will probably never find one again and this is definitely our best find. 18939.webp 18941.webp18943.webp18944.webp Sorry for the sideways pics, dont know why they posted that way if anyone could flip them somehow I would appreciate it.

WOW! Very nice. As everyone else has stated, You should search that whole place top to bottom.

We will definitely put more time in that field. We searched the area for about an hour and even looked for deep ones with a minelab. We could've missed one though, and will definitely turn the field upside down looking for more.

Awesome!!!! Congrats!!!!

You've had a great metal detecting day. Please post a better photo showing both gold coins, as this is the only thing keeping you from having a banner day. The mods only like to see great photos up top! Congrats, and good luck on your return trips to that site.

19003.webp19007.webp I will try and get a better picture of mine later.

Sweet Gold you and your dad dug there.

Here's a better picture of mine. It was obviously in a fire because of the bubbles and the bend but I'm extremely happy with it. 19011.webp19012.webp

Great work, Young Man! 🙌🙌🙌 I have a feeling we'll be seeing more good stuff from this field! Keep 'em coming! 😁

That’s a wild hunt

I hope so!

You find gold. You selflessly wish for your Daddy to find one. He finds a better one. A better T-hunting story couldn't be written. The finds and the Daddy-time: I'm envious of you in the best of ways, brother.

I would've felt horrible If i found 2 and he didn't get one. Who knows when and if an opportunity for a gold coin will come up again.

WOW That is so cool!!! Congratulations:icon_thumleft:

Awesome and a banner request.

My banner vote goes to Diggerkid2003 and his melted gold coin. That coin has character and it tells a story. Of course Dad's gold coin has more value to it. But IMO only one banner can be awarded to this epic day of detecting, and that banner should go to the finder of the first gold coin, Diggerkid2003. (I bet this honor would make his Dad especially happy.) I hope Diggerkid2003 chooses not to sell his coin for the significant melt value it holds. Its worth more as a keepsake that will give him a lifetime of great memories.

Banner and, yes, I would be camping out there. Congratulations to you and your dad!

I would never sell anything of mine. Especially a gold coin. I enjoy the history in it too much.

Amazing finds! Definitely a banner day!
