So I've been living in this house for about a year now and today something told me to give the attic a closer look so I grabbed a flashlight and went up to see what I could find. I had always thought the house was built around the 20's it's a 4 square style with a cool 4 window attic in NEPA. All the floors are original hardwood but there are places where the boards were tore up for electrical work. Nothing was sitting there in the open for me to find but when I shined the light under the floor and peaked my head in I started finding some truly amazing things. First was a medal from the 1911 reunion of the elk lodge in Atlantic City. Then an old navy button and an amazing 45 star American flag! It's 55 by 34 inches and I want to get it framed to preserve it asap (any thoughts on value would be appreciated though it won't be sold). Then a pack of smokes and some amazing hand painted signs the last of which had a note from the original homeowner to his wife on the back which best I can tell must be over 100 years old and explains that he sold hand painted signs to local businesses. It was a great day found a ton of history about the people who used to call my house home. Any opinions or insight is appreciated, thanks. Neat stuff! With the widespread use of computer-cut vinyl and digital printing, hand-lettered signs are rapidly disappearing. In my 36 years (so far) as a signmaker, I did everything by hand for the first ten, so due to exposure to the elements, there are few surviving examples of my early work. The early stuff had so much more character than today's cookie-cutter crap. Back in the day, if you didn't know layout and lettering, you stayed the hell out of the sign business, but now everybody is getting in on the act, and it shows in their work. It's great that your finds have been protected all these years and definitely should be treasured.

How cool is this! Take care of Old Glory!

the kind of stuff dreams are made of....congrats...great post

Very cool, I love it too! Good work and one of the top 3 post I've read this year. Thanks for sharing!

Woo cool!! I remember my neighbor when I was a kid renovated their bathroom wall and when they took the wall down there was a douche kit from the 20s

Amazing finds. If only all of our homes could hold those long hidden treasures !

LOL! "Hey Dad, check out the cool sprinkler thing I just found. Mom can water her plants with this..."

Thanks everyone! Ide love to find a picture of the original owner to go with it or even his name to research his life but I have neither unfortunately. I've been thinking though. Do you think he purposely stashed these items away for someone (me) to find all these years later? Or just stashed them and forgot about them? Also when I first found the price tag/cards I thought they were tobacco baseball cards from that era! Anyone know knows their value knows my heart skipped a beat lol.

Went back this morning and am still finding things. Love that 1922 Chesterfield pack. That is amazing, a beautiful old treasure from the Prohibition days where smoking was the only legal vice!

My newest find isn't the oldest but it might be the best. Because I might finally have his name! Can anyone make it out looks like h Boyle something to me. Anyway it's a depression era (1931) checkbook fully filled out and used. The 2.50 tab at the American legion is my favorite. One of my beers costs 3 bucks today [emoji23]. Anyway pumped to have found it! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507063547.120986.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507063566.925665.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507063580.125228.webp

Now that you have the name, time to trace back some deeds! Good luck!

I see the tax stamp on the Chesterfields says April 1922. Those have got to be worth some bucks to collectors

Just wonderful finds. Better look around more.

I tried looking the chesterfields up on eBay but can't find any that old.
