The feature that he's putting down is a great feature. Helps to find a tiny target in a pile of dirt. You sweep it throught the dirt to locate the target. You obviously use the tip only when you're looking for a coin in the hole. Some people are never happy with anything!

You are correct. Although I love how the Garrett is reliable and rugged, I hate that it detects up the barrel. Whites TRX did not but it was not loud enough for me. I am using a Manticore now which seems to find coins in a nest of nails. Finding your intended target is sometimes difficult.
 
I guess everybody has their preferences. I used the TRX and the Garrett and preferred the Carrot. Detecting from the whole barrel is an advantage to me especially when pinpointing the dirt or sand that is removed from the hole.
