🥇 BANNER Unique early Silversmith Cross

Yesterday I decided to head back to a woods spot I hunted once before.
I’ve found a couple of musket balls and square nails the last time I went there so I knew this site had potential.

When I dug this cross it was covered in dirt,but I knew it was Silver cause of the signal I got.

It was only when I cleaned it thou that I noticed it was a silversmiths handmade Cross.

No makers mark on it and don’t know the exact age of the Cross,but I love the art work on it.

Well this find surely made my Day.

I think this might be something really special. I've seen Spanish colonial era crosses similar to this for sale at coin shows, offered by treasure coin dealers. This thing screams REALLY OLD.

That's one awesome looking cross man! I don't know how old it is but counting the square nails and musket balls could be 18th or early 19th century. That amateur made silver Jesus almost looks like something out of Marc Chagall or Munch. Again, an amazing find man. Congratulations!

I cant stop looking at it! It looks like it was 200 years old when it was lost. I really wouldnt be surprised if it was made in the 17th century and lost 200 years after. An old "hand me down".

I agree. I personally find it absolutely unique. From the site description it could in fact be 17th century made. Something I would expect to see found in Europe which makes it even more unique.

I think you might be right about a Spanish connection. I just checked some early hand made silver crosses. There's a ressemblance for sure.

The "death face" at the base of the cross (which may signify Golgotha--the "place of the skull"), was a common feature of tombstones in the mid-1700s. I highly suspect that this crucifix dates to the same time frame.

I think its probably late 18th C. Very nice example.
