A buddy of mine found this in the Finger Lakes region of New York, the area was settled around 1780 and was abandoned by 1930. What are your thoughts?

Very cool! That looks like a Canadian Blacksmith Token. There are a few varieties that are similar and below is a listing for one of them. You will need better images (plus a reverse) to make certain of the variety.

Agreed, I was going to say some kind of Token. (although I was thinking a circa 1790s British half penny type) Your ID is far more interesting.
