I've had this button for over 20 years. Dug it behind a colonial house where I also eyeballed a hard rubber Civil War navy button. I am working up a display, so trying to ID it now. Thanks!

How big (or small) is it? My guess is that it's a civilian fashion button from the first half of the 20th century. I can't remember seeing any buttons designed like yours in any military references and most all military buttons will have a backmark on them. Keep in mind that this is just a guess and it may be something else entirely.

Sorry, I forgot to put a coin in beside it. It's smaller than a quarter, bigger than a nickel. The rim in the back photo at the bottom is that hard rubber navy button. The civilian explanation seems reasonable, since it was a home belonging to people of some standing. Besides the hard rubber CW navy button and this one, a half reale was also found in the field. They put an apartment complex back there now, sadly. Thanks for the tip.
