Today I made contact with some people that I've been dying to detect near their homes near Frederick County. I spent a lot time talking to them and getting to know them. (That is part of the fun of detecting). Unfortunately it didn't leave me with as much time as I would like swinging the coil. But I came up with some good finds anyway.

One of the finds included a percussion cap tin. It was in EXCELLENT condition! and amazingly it opened after some carefull coaching. (Unfortunately nothing was inside).

Another more puzzling find was a campaign token of Garfield dated 1880 that appeared to be made of Aluminum? If anyone knows anything about this coin let me know, I'd be interested. I tried to google some of the words on it but could find it.

And lastly I found three nice fired 3 ringers. One of them is a really neat piece.

If the Garfield token is aluminum, it's definitely not from 1880, as aluminum would have been as valuable as good at that time. Cool percussion cap tin.

Since Garfield was assinated just 4 months after being inaugrated,I would keep that coin/token.May not be many of them.

The coin is a 1960s shell oil coin , you got them at a shell station and could send in for one made of brass or copper i think.

I think Dave got it. I know someone made presidential coins in the' 60's but couldn't remember who. I've dug a few myself.

That's cool. The whole Aluminum thing had me thrown off. Thanks.
