Hello all, As I am cleaning up my desk where I open all my coins, I get to the bottom of a huge pile of plastic brinks wrappers and paper half dollar wrappers all unopened ready to be recycled and thrown in the trash. In the corner of my desk, I find 2 rolls of brinks pennies unopened, don't know how they got there, perhaps last box? I am not quite sure. I open the 2 rolls, roll 1 had nothing, roll 2 had a 1991 canadian penny and this odd coin.

it is copper, and looks to be quite worn, possibly a coin from the 1800's? I don't think it is american. It's also shaped kind of weird as well.

sorry about the scan, my scanner is not the best with dark colored/copper coins.

600 dpi is the best my scanner does, and these are the best scans i can get.

The obverse almost looks like an african woman's head to me... i hope someone will know on here. VERY interesting find!

Interseting find, Buffaloboy. The obverse looks like the profile of a king facing to the left.
Good find and it certainly is old.

I'm going with ancient Roman coin.

in the top picture i can see a head shape with a crown on

to me it looks like the top of the "crown" is in the upper left and he is facing to the right, the way we are viewing the image.

I see the head and crown facing right, but that's the only think I can make out.

I see a guy smokin' a "J" on the beach.

It appears he is Coin Roll Hunting as well, while the sun is setting and 9 women are dancing to Jimmy Buffet in bikinis while drinking margaritas.

That's exactly what I see.

+1 but you forgot the cold beer

I agree, try electrolysis on it. Is it the exact same thickness as a penny? Or is it thicker or thinner?

The coin is roughly the same thickness as a penny. I am not going to mess with the coin, cleaning/messing with it damages it.

i can almost guaruntee that it is an ancient coin. :headbang: i collect ancients and alot that i buy look like that... :icon_thumright: that coin has had a looooooooooong life! great job and ill bet thats your oldest crh coin ever! that is super cool! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :headbang:

Idk, just trying to help.... :)

ya thats what i see looks like my 1893 canadian dime figure Edward someone or other.

if you're lucky its Ptolomes !

it would be so cool to have found an ancient coin CRH'ing!!!

It can't be a Canadian coin, the only kings that Canada has had were George V and George IV on small sized coinage, both of which were facing the opposite direction. It could be Edward VII but the Canadian pennies of him were much larger, about the size of a quarter or a British half-penny, it wasn't until 1920 that Canada adopted the size of pennies they have today. And Edward VIII never had any Canadian coins issued because he abdicated too quickly.
