:dontknow:I just found something never found before. It was at Dania beach.
In the water in the middle of a horse shoe.
I think it is from native Indians or Ship wreck.
It smell in side like oil but sweet.
And it is ringing like iron on my machine.
What you thinking?

Looks kind of like a onion bottle probably tossed off a ship possibly in the 1700's? but I could be way off.

be interested to know what that is , keep us posted thanks

This is a guess and only since you said it rings in as iron..... could it be a crude old hand grenade? Your pictures had me searching the net for similar items and I can't find anything identical. I'm really interested in what the experts say on this one!
Nice find.

Because it is small I would say it is more likely an old Ink well.

Looks like a small seed pot to me. I've found some interesting things at Dania Beach before, but that is a nice rare beach find. I would post it here- North American Artifacts

The iron signal could be leaching from the iron horseshoe it was found with, depending on how long they were buried together. How deep was the water you found it in?

Might be something placed in the water as part of a good luck ritual offering. Find a lot of that stuff in some waterfront parks in the Bronx.

What a nice find there Bulgarian, Looks to be made of tarracotta and most likely a small olive oil jar used as a condiment jar. It looks to have a pour spout on the rim.
As for it sounding off like iron on your metal detector, my Sea Hunter II will sound off on bricks and I believe it is from the iron oxide in the clay. It is possible that this is the case with your little jar.
As for age I am no expert but I would guess around the 18th cent. Again, very nice piece, a real little treasure.
ZDD

Have you tried rubbing it, Barbara Eden might pop out.....

Really nice find, for me it would be better than a gold ring, would look good in my display case...LOL..

Congratulations my friend...

Bulg... You know there was evidence of a 1600's wreck at Dania--supposedly near or under the beach and the pier. In 50's to early 60's, copper Spanish Marv.'s occasionally washed up in the surf. However, Dania in the 60's was loaded with pipe smokers; dune buggy enthusiasts; and murf the surf. Of course, along the coast is much Santeria offerings these days; ashes being distrubuted from various vessels and such. Not saying what you have is not old, however, it looks more like a knob than a vessel. You may never know unless you can find a similar object found on shipwrecks. I suggest you post it on that forum for some expert opinions related to that history.

Best guess is prehistoric or very very old historic pottery. I have seen similar pieces of American Indian pottery from Arkansas recently. My Cibola goes off sometimes on rocks, probably the iron content of the ceramic. Awesome relic though.

Nice find . Congratulations on what looks like a rare find! :occasion14:

Could be either old Spanish, or maybe native peoples pottery. Hard to say. Nice find!

Wow very nice find! Congrats!! Let us know what you find out!
