Hello everyone! I’ve not been out much but I did get out Tuesday and found this weird looking relic at my 1830s fort site. For whatever reason it reminds me of a musical instrument piece. The close lateral photo shows an engraved XVIIII which may be a misrepresentation of the Roman numeral 19.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for looking!

Just noticed the 19 in Roman numerals. Could be 1819?

Hi, Cool find , I found a brass knife hilt with a piece of what could have been the rusty blade on our property. it had roman numerals etched in the brass part and was told it was a regimental number. We are about 8 miles from Gettysburg, Pa. Paul:coffee2:

Dang, that's a tough one but it looks like it had a purpose for sure. Will be following

Thank you Paul. I’ll look into that.

Musical? Valve for a woodwind instrument? They would need a spring. Probably not even close.

I believe I finally figured it out. It appears to be from an 1830s single key flute. I’ve included a similar example from the one I found.
