I HATE to post a "what is it" w/o a picture but one will be coming soon. I am trying to ID a device that has cross and anchor devices crossing. The overall "look" of the design is like a 9th corp badge a little but with the cross and anchor instead of the cannon. I assume it is a chaplain/religious device?? The size is about 1" tall and 3/4" wide. I'll post pictures as soon as I can get them. I have googled every possibly combo I can think of and have looked at so many emblems and devices I'm cross eyed!! The best reference, only by description, was of a British RN device but this was found in a camp that produced some Rhode Island relics.. so maybe a connection there?

This one is buggin me!! I haave a rubbing of it but that won't do any good to post..

Thanks,
MB

Ok, I added some pictures. I'm still getting use to my Nikon D200 macro setup soo they could have been a little better. The reverse "looks" like it might have a have lead fill at some point. This came from a large camp, with multiple Corp badges being dug.. plus enough Rhode Island buttons to make me think there is a connection but I might just be making an assumption on that.

Thanks for any help!! This one is bugging me!!!

No, the anchor and cross bisect each other almost exactly like the cannon and anchor on the corp badge. It is also a plain cross. wish I had gotten a picture!!

Thanks!!

IMO this is no corps badge.

Nor is it R.I. related.

Nor is it military.

I would imagine it is civilian. It could be related to a particular fraternal organization. I just haven't seen anything like it in the CW ID books anywhere. And with the heavy Christian symbolism (flaming heart and cross) I am leaning towards fraternal organization.

Oh, never intended to imply it was a corp badge that is pretty oblivious, or even unit specific but it has that similarity to a 9th corp badge. I understand the confusion, I was just referencing the size of the camps and the number of badges that camp of of there.. not that this was one. The only "opinion" prior to T-net was it was chaplain or religious related. It could have been dropped later and not related to the camp but this was a large camp... and I mean large... so I lean towards it being related to the camp. The only house on the property is a fairly small farm house.. ~1830s and in the years of covering the entire farm and and adjacent woods we never hit another house site.. only a spring house and small smoke house and the barn. The amount of house site fainds we made were very low.. Hmm... fraternal organizations raises some new possibilities.. plus just the religious aspect.. "no atheist in a foxhole"

**UPDATE** Rereading my post, I was trying to describe it and the similarity to the 9th Corp badge and the RI Anchor.. not really implying a direct connection.. but the fact that both came out of this camp is interesting to say the least.

I see a small "something" where the cross and anchor cross.

Ok, after more googeling.. I am going to call this a "Sacred hearts of Jesus" emblem.. it fits perfectly with some of the other images I found... by manufacture and design.. could be 1850s to 1890s.

Thanks for the help!!
