Hi all, my son is up this weekend (he graduates high school this Thursday) and we went for a hunt in a really old park here in town. We got eaten up by mosquitos even with repellent on. Me managed to find 20+ coins including a 1925 Wheatie. We also found an old can opener, a tag for a company called The Dentist Supply Company of New York ( http://trubyte.dentsply.com/pro/history.shtml ) we live in Omaha, NE. Also found the base of a shotgun shell. Researched it on this site and found another like it. The shell was manufactured from 1901 - 1920. A huge staple (made of a non-corrosive metal) that I found 3 inches down and a cap looking thing with the number 3 and a flower and the name Merry Widows on it. Can't seem to find anything online except that it was a movie, and a lingerie line

We had a great day, and my son was excited to actually find something. He found the "Merry Widows" cap 3 - 4 inches down, the Dentist Supply Tag, the can opener and a 1967 penny.
We also found lots of can dumps (the old beer cans that required a can opener to open them). These were all over the place. Actually found one can that still had part of the label on it - it was a Falstaff can.
HH
P.S. I will definitely be going back with a stronger insect repellent.
UPDATE:
Son and I did not go detecting on Sunday (today), but we did experiment with electrolysis to clean up the can opener. I took this idea from a post by "floater" http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,10898.0.html
I changed the container to a rubbermaid 9" x 18" container. I experimented with 2 different power sources - a 12V, 300 ma charger for an old portable cassette player I had and an old laptop charger which was 19V and 3 amps. The 12V worked great for a corroded penny (198?) that we tested it on. I tried both on the can opener and they both worked.
Thanks for indulging me and thanks to floater for the electrolysis setup plan.
