Hi All......a few months ago while detecting on the Villa field I come across two Scottish Coins one being a :icon_king: Alexander111 early edition Class 3 Ion Cokin on Perth. Unfortunately the coin had been heavily struck and a large crack went from top to bottom, further up the same field a came across a Scottish Cut Half with a portrait I had not seen before, when I did the original post I told you guys that if I found out what it was I would update, well yesterday I got the info I needed :icon_study: not from the UK but from a guy across the pond. It turns out that the Cut Half a very rare :icon_king: Alexander11 Class D from the rare mint Roxburgh in Scotland if the Cut half had been a full coin it would have been worth in access of £2000 or about $4000 dollars :o TK.

Good news.

Funny how some items can take years to ID, then you get the extra thrill of labelling it.

Tyre:
I'm intrigued. Can I assume the coin was minted about 1240? Is the Roxburgh mint determined by the reverse noted "O" as part of the 'usual' "RO" mintmark for Roxburgh or could it have been minted in Berwick?
Aye,
Don........

Hi Don...I sure it's Roxburgh mint as an expert has ID the coin but coins of this reign were minted at Berwick, Alexander ruled from 1214-49 although coins bearing his name did not appear till 1230-35 :icon_sunny:
