Found this town last year but wasn't able to hunt...finally got out there with my dad yesterday! The town was once quite large, and was founded in the late 1880's in antipation of the railroad coming through. I could not find any population numbers past the early 1900's, but at that time there were more than 160 residents.

The city was deserted at some point when the rr didn't come, and was re-inhabited in the 50's or 60's (my guess based on the two "newer" houses). The only buildings left standing are two houses built later, and many stone foundations.

This is the town, I'll post pics of the finds in a few minutes. It was a little tough hunting with all the brush :)

Re: Ghost town first-time hunt

That is so cool!!!

I don't see a picture of a map though. Did you remove it to keep your secret safe? :-X Don't blame you if you did, just wondered if I was missing something. :icon_scratch:

Very cool, good luck with it. ;D

I did take the map down just in case it was too informational. It showed a good number of places to hunt, including a couple hotels, a baseball field, a few ponds, a bank, stores etc :)

Good job on the hunt, and glad to see all the responses. I think it's great to show the metal detecting world that there is more to North Dakota than snow and gophers. I am too busy farming to get out much now, but I am definitely going to catch up when I retire!

If that ever happens.

Ok, went back today and hunted around one of the houses. This house was originally the courthouse...it was torn down and the house was built out of the old vault.

First, finds:

1. a button? has gold color plating and a jewel. Not sure if it's real gold plating...

2. No idea! I believe it says "Schneider" on it and something else below it. The smaller tube comes out of the larger one, and there are marks with numbers next to them.

3. A super light object that looks like a rock, but was found by the detector. I don't remember what it ID'd it at.

4. A spoon, lots of square nails, and part of a hinge?

No coins today :( but some interesting stuff anyway! There were so many hits that we decided to come back and just dig everything in one small area. Any ideas on ID are welcome :)

Posting more pics of the site in a few.

Nice looking spot staci  I think the one pic # 2 is a concrete anchor,we find them alot, sometimes they have both parts the anchor and the bolt/ broke inside it ....Sometimes they have rings on the ancors ,for more holding strength in the concrete...Keep at it. I like the cuff link :o Relicdude

Wow, what an awesome place to hunt. Wish I could find something like that around here!

Wow what a post!!
Joe

Nice Researching... :icon_study: For sure that pays off...Keep us posted. Congrats

Staci, the cufflink looks like it is better suited to be a "collar" Link......Not GE

Thanks! It's been fun researching and finding interesting things. Any idea on the age of the cuff/collar link?

I would say late 1800's to maybe the 1920's and later..... Not GE
