I started the day off at a site I have not visitited in a month or so. My last trip there I found my first US buckle. Shortly into the day I could not believe what I just found, the other part of the Buckle. I photographed them together in one of the photos below. It was ~ 25 feet away from the first part. Later I found this odd copper shaped thing. I know I have seen one before but have no idea what it is. Any Ideas?

Really cool buckle! :icon_thumleft: Any idea on the era it came from? The usual civil war oval shaped ones are obvious, what about yours?

Hello, From What I was told it is called a Hagner buckle and may have been used in the indian wars shortly after the civil war. Thanks

The first item you posted is most certainly the brass "keeper" from your buckle, or some other period military buckle. I found one exactly the same back in 2008, and it had the same bench mark as the Civil War Sword Belt Plate I dug. Look at some relic websites online and you will see a match for the style and type of keeper you dug.

Cheers,

Buckles

You might have seen this one, found at a winter Yankee camp.Still don't know what it is :dontknow:

I think the type buckle you found is a great find! I love the look, and you found the matching keeper, that's cool. The other piece has something to do with a sword, I believe it is part of the sword hanger. HH
