Im pretty sure this is a US great seal button, but I scoured the internet, and I cant find one quite like this. To make things worse, I cant make out the lettering on the back.

any help would be appreciated. I know you pros on here can identify this.

Welcome to the forums. I don't think that is a button and the border is not what you would expect to see on one. Maybe BigCypressHunter will be along soon and tell you what it is.
You might want to give us some measurements as well as what you think it is made of. That will help in correctly IDing your piece.

I am not sure what it is made of. Ill test it with a magnet when I can. It is about 1 1/2" diameter, pretty big. It was found in Northern Minnesota.

it is non magnetic! I have had no more luck making out the lettering on the back.

Your button's maker, or hallmark, bears a strong resemblance to "Whitehead and Hoag Co" that I have seen on numerous military, police, and fire badges. Very cool find, your button appears to be a ceremonial button like those on the uniforms of Honor Guards. Sub 8-)

pretty sure you are right on the money with the hallmark. Could this be one of the buttons that factory workers were required by law to wear during WWII?
