I went out metal detecting, this time I went out of my yard, and to a place where people go sometimes to target shoot. I was wondering if I would find any bullets while metal detecting. I was very doubtful I would find something.

When I got there, nobody was target shooting. This is not a gun range, by the way. It’s just public land where people sometimes go to target shoot.

I decided to start detecting. When I got about 200 yards away from my car, I picked up something on the detector. I looked at the spot and found a big hunk of lead, obviously used.

Judging from the amount of lead, my best guess is that it is a muzzleloader bullet. I could be wrong.

I can’t believe it. I found a used bullet.

Old bullets are among the most common finds while metal detecting. There are literally millions of these in the ground in America. If you go in the woods behind my house there are thousands there.

You know what the cool thing is? I showed a friend of mine this picture. He said it is a .50 caliber muzzleloader powerbelt bullet.

What’s cool is that my in-line muzzleloader uses that exact type of bullet. I’ve gone target shooting at that spot a few times with it.

It could be one of my bullets.
