Posted this on another forum and they suggested I post it here.I recently acquired some of my grandfathers collections.
One of the more interesting finds is a silver serving dish with a USN 1365 stamp on the bottom. I assumed this meant US Navy, googled the id, and came up with a ship built in the 1800's. I am attaching some pics but any help on this would be appreciated!

It was definitely made for the USN, that much I know. I found the same dish on ebay. Guy says he bought it off a WW2 vet that was a submarine naval officer. Vintage Navy Submarine Siver Plate Lid Reed and Barton 3610 1365 | eBay He also says it was made by Reed & Barton and has the name on it besides the crown? I don't believe him as I have never seen this particular crown mark by Reed & Barton. I would have to see a photo of it which he does not show. I think it's safe to say that the serving dish is more than likely WW2 era for the US Navy (unsure of the submarine comment). Anything other than that is just guessing until we can find out what company used that particular crown mark.

PS- It's silverplate or holloware as it's also called.

Yeah no name on it at all just the crown. I've looked all over and the 1365 is the only thing directing me to the USS Gorgas....not sure

I would think 1365 is the manufacturers model number of the dish.

I would think 1365 is the manufacturers model number of the dish.
Exactly, model number, pattern number, style number, something to that effect versus having . These are production numbers put on by the manufacturer and have no relation to any ship or submersible. They were not marked in that fashion.

Someone found it!
