I've always wanted to go meteorite hunting, but don't even know where to get started.... Does anyone know of any decent places in Utah to go search?

Meteorites can be found anywhere in the world, however, the probabilities are much, much higher when searching areas where they have been found before. Do a Google search for any known Meteorite Strewn Fields in Utah. If there are any, those will be the best places to search. If there are none listed, then the best places to search will be the Salt Flat Bed Areas, Dry Lake Bed Areas and Dry River Bed Areas. You will want to search the areas, within those areas, that are less traveled.

First: make a listing of all known meteorite finds in Utah.

Second: determine where meteorite strewn fields are in Utah.

Third: choose somewhere close to you, that is on federal land. Recent developments allow you to keep a smaller meteorite if you find it. You must not sell it immediately to attempt to make a profit on it. But you can leave it to your heirs, for example, and they can sell it.
