Utica, Ohio - My 1850's House finds

Here are my finds from Nate and I's trip down to Columbus(OSU) and the subsequent visit to Joanne's sister's 1850's home near Utica.

Jack and Joanne are good friends of ours and a while back at dinner one evening I was showing them some "finds of the day". Joanne mentioned that her sister lived in an old house near Columbus. She didn't know the age of the place but said it was definitely over 100 years old. So Monday as we came home from our College visit we stopped by. Place is beautiful with 100 acres. They also have 30 Angus.

All of the good finds came from the front yard. 7 Indian Head Pennies, 6 older wheat pennies and 3 silver coins. The Indian Head pennies were all about 4-6 inches deep. Most of those signals were very broken up and iffy. What helped us was the very little amount of iron and trash in the yard. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. ;D The only trouble I had was going under the power line going to the house. For that I had to turn my sensitivity down.

I did find a nice 1909 VDB. :)

Joanne's sister's son Joshua( who happen also to be on spring break) is in 7th grade and was interesting in detecting. He was hanging around so I let him and his friend take turns finding targets and digging. One of the first comments was that they thought the Explorer II sounded like R2D2 from Star Wars. They both were excited when they each found a penny. :) At the end of our time there I gave Joshua the 1904 Indian Head penny and he was very happy. I gave his parents some advice on purchasing a detector for the kid but don't know if they will purchase him one.

HH all.

Bob

what a wonderful place that would be to live! I really need to move someone scenic. Awesome finds, I could be happy the rest of my life hunting that area.

Nice digs Bob. Looks like you guys found another hot spot. I bet you guys will be returning back there again. Of course if junior gets a detector, you might have to fight him for the yards. LOL.

Thanks for posting those great pictures.

Hello Mirage,
Looking at the house reminds me of my fathers house in Moline, Ks. You don't see to many of those metal roofs. Way-cool. Looks like a great place to hunt and way to go on your finds.
I've been busy the past few days and sooooooo looking to get out this weekend and hunt.
Can't wait to see more.

nice digs man, keep it up... well actually keep it down, your coil that is.

Re: Utica, Ohio - My 1850's House finds

Congratulations on some truly neat finds.

Your pictures of the house and surrounding property are just great, I bet they don't do the place justice.

When looking for colleges, you can't do better than here in Massachusetts, and New England in general for that matter. If Nate considers a school out this way you'll have a built in excuse for coming out and hunting here in the East, not to mention everywhere between here and Ohio to boot.

It's Just one full days driving, give or take. Did the trip myself last summer to take in a Cleveland Indians Game and eat at Alice CoopersTown.

Once again, great story, great pictures, great finds!

Happy Hunting,
Johnny Cache

What a lovely place. Those pictures are great! Although your finds are awesome as always, your character is what makes this post the best. :)
