Uuuggghhh!

Pretty much impossible to completely block them. LOL, usually my machine tells me they're coins, so you know what? I recycle them and prove my machine right, hehe.

Try taking a quarter and a squashed can out in the yard and test them out as to how far away your coil is from them. You sill find that you wont detect the quarter at some point.... but will still pick up the can from a ways off. So... in the field when you hit one of those...raise the coil up as far off the ground where the quarter quit registering in your yard..... if it is still banging off...then its likely to be a can.

Soda Cans sound good, almost tooooooo good. If you can lift your coil 2 ft. off the ground and are still getting a signal then you can be pretty sure it isn't a coin. May be a silver hoard though so what the heck dig it any way.
ZDD

I love finding pull-tabs. It tells me that People visit the search area. The older the style pull-tab, the older the goodies when I find them.

Aluminum cans are still worth 1/2 of a cent in scrap aluminum. If you find a 100 of them thats .50 in scrap. :occasion14:

Its called paying you due's , for every 50 or so can you dig , you will find one maybe two relics or coins unless your in a really good spot ... its that one time you think oh its got to be a can as you flip over that plug to see a nice walking liberty look back at ya ! Keep on swinging my friend !

Because they are big, and they are made of metal.
Why would you not want to dig them?

I notch out nothing & dig, get used to it. I call it trash digging not treasure hunting.

Civil War plates sound exactly the same (size-wise, too), as cans. If you're in the woods, dig it!

You must have the wrong detector. Perhaps you should buy one of the fancy models like we all have that beeps only over the civil war relics, gold jewelry, and silver coins.

Welcome to the Forum ! :hello:

I love digging up soda cans ... that means the beach is busy and that along with the cans are gold chains and other good things ... this week I pulled out a wristwatch and $ 200 ... the signal was like soda cans ....

??? you really can't so "digem" anyway there finds........keep swingin and smilein

Why do I keep finding soda cans? How can I stop this? I notch out aluminum and the machine still finds them??? HELP
You wouldn't want to discriminate out aluminum because you'll miss too many good targets if you do.

If I am not digging cans in my fields then I am not digging good stuff. We have a saying that we cannot find a coin until we dig at least one can.

A few years back we were in a can infested spot near the road. One of those "can" signals was a 2 reale. It was only an inch down and sounded exactly like all the can signals,

cans are bigger so they give a much bigger signal than coins...like others have said, try to plant some coins in your backyard. that's the best way to get to know the sounds. Put a soda can in there too and compare side by side. they'll sound different. BUT...there are things that can be good that will sound the same as soda cans! so just dig it all and it will pay off..you never know...
