Found these today in the field where my friend found the gold dollar. The copper weighs 12 gr. And is very thick, it's the one in the hole. Toasted as most of mine are, could tell right away it was different. Was hoping to find an early LC after electrolysis, but no such luck. Good luck to all. Art

I just dug a slick early big copper last Sunday. I gave up on electrolysis for ID details, but one I did from a year ago on the same site, showed it to be brass color, so it may be high-zinc counterfeit, or I keep hearing of Irish? brass copper tokens used as money? IDK, but it gets discouraging. Seems like 1800 is the cut off date here, to have details left to ID them. My oldest coin from this small hot spot is 1726 one reale, but the only Id'able coppers from there are 1802, 1817, 1823

I did find a ancient overgrown former house site and is now grazing land with "never had fertilizers"...and my 4 best fancy 1700 buttons came from there in almost brand new condition ...but you think I can find just one dang copper there? LOL

I've got about 140 coppers and not many good ones. I do have a pretty good 1795 lettered edge liberty cap.

Art, I recently dug a old Russian 2 Kopek copper that is close to those measurements. It is a hefty coin.
