Went to a vacant lot where I found an 1887 I H a couple of months ago.( DeKalb33 and Bomber hit a month ago ) The first time I went they had just torn down the house. I was there for a 1/2 hr when a guy asked me what I was doing. I told him M Ding. He makes a call and then tells me to leave. Couldn't understand all the place was was a bunch of dirt....I left...
Today I drove past it and they scraped about 6-8 inches of dirt off and was getting ready to lay stone and gravel down..Found the 1945 S Merc in a matter of a minute the found then other coins..Once again the same story only this time it was a different guy...I asked why it wouln't be ok since all it was was dirt and it's about to be covered up...He said sorry I cant let you . I said OK thank you and left....

Back says: CORONATION 1953 ... Front says: Elizabeth II D:G: BRITT Coronation coin

Great finds!

I also recently got kicked out of a plain-old dirt lot, and the guy told me flat out it was because of liability issues.

I said, "what, like I'm gonna trip over a dirt clod?" The guy thought that was funny, but he still made me leave. >:(

That *never* used to happen. But Americans have gotten so lawsuit-happy that now everyone is terrified of getting sued. Maybe I should sue him for kicking me out.
First off Great Finds.
Secondly the liability issue is the real matter. I used to be a Hunter Education Instructor and landowners in some areas would not grant permission because of such an issue. It seems that they must know where every groundhog hole, badger hole, and other such dangers are on their property. I know it doesn't make sense on our side of the coin being hunters of many different types, but being there are sue happy people out there in the world today they are just covering their butts as preventable measures. Still wouldn't stop me from asking and if there was no fence or signage in a public area I would not hesitate at all to give it a try.
