That's a 2 Reale. I know the 8 Reale is the equivalent of a dollar for the time.

oh clicked wrong one - sorry. They are typically in the range I previously stated. One I purchased was around that figure.

There are three variations of that 1778 8R MX coin; two concern the assayer's initials and the third is a counterstamped date of 1778 over 1777. The counterstamp should be obvious if the coin is in descent shape. The assayer's initials are next to the mint mark, as you approach the 'noon' position on the coin. If you can read the assayer's initials (either FF or FM) let us know.

I bought a 1778 Lima Peru 8 reale last year in decent shape and paid $150 which was a decent price I thought. I see them generally go for between $100-$200 if they are in decent-good condition.
