Vaquero for wet sand?

If you are talking about wet SALT water sand, it is not the best, but will work. If it is to be used on wet and black sand (iron) beaches like in southern Calif. I would get a multi freq or a PI detector. If you are talking about fresh water wet sand it is great, one of the best. MO

I have a vaquero and a beach hunter id, the other day I took the vaquero out to see how it would handle the wet salt sand.I put on the 5.75 wide scan coil,I put the sensitivity to 10 and the threashold to max and the discrimination to just below nickle and I dug a quarter at 14-16 inches deep. The detector falsed a little but was pretty stable if you try to lower the discrimination the detector went crazy, the higher the discrimination the less salt it sees. The vaquero is no way as stable as my whites beach hunter id in the wet sand but I was still very impressed if you can only afford one detector I would go for the vaquero, it is amazing, and I would buy the wide scan coil, you can use it on the beach and go nugget shooting and it is still pretty good for coin shooting in trashy places.Good Luck

I'm on the Texas coast and use my Vaq at the beach often, dry or wet sand, it works well. Most times I run the sens at 6-8, very little falsing, disc below nickel. Once in awhile I run into small pockets of minerailized stuff that I have to bypass, but I'm talking about small areas like 2'x4' and these are far and few between.

If one detector handles the wet/black sand well and another does not in the same location don't you think one is less sensitive? Most hunters turn up the sens to high in the first place. A widescan coil also "sees" less minerals/salt so it responds better to targets where the field is wider at depth than a concentric coil. However if you might get the detector wet from salt spray a baggie over it will help. If you think you might drop it in the surf, better think of getting a Water detector like the Excal, Tiger Shark, Beach Hunter ID 300 or one of the nice PI detectors if you still have a strong back or finding bobby pins still excites you.

Good Luck,

If you want to find deep gold you have to dig targets including bobby pins
