I own both a Vaquero and a Silver uMax. Which one would you take to Ocean City Maryland to hunt the beach? I would like to do both dry and wet sand if possible. I figure that both will do well on the dry sand. It's the wet sand I'm worried about (especially the transition between wet and dry). Is manual ground balance the way to go or will the auto ground balance produce fewer hassles (with the sensitivity likely turned way down)?

Thoughts? I may take both but detecting is not the primary reason for going and space in the car is tight.

Of the two I would choose the V because it has ground balancing while the Silver doesn't. You will find things easier on you if you stick to the dry sand and when goging into the wet, ground balance again to hunt there. You should do this everytime when moving between wet/dry or dry/wet.

If the surf is up where spray is likely, place a baggie over the controls and have fun.

Thanks Sandman. You are always a wealth of information. I'll take the V as you suggested.

he's got it right!
