HEY GUYS AND GALS

Out for a hunt today after clearing 12 inches of snow outta the driveway and boat.

Wind was outta the Nortwest at 30 knots and -4c so found a spot where we could get outta of it.

Started off very slow and after 2 hours still nothing much in the pouch except the coins. Then came across a little hot spot..pulling out the J+S button and bell.

Then spotted something sticking outta a big piece of sod that had broken away from the bank...it was the COCA COLA piece...the bottom piece was inside the sod which apparently helped to preserve it ..the other end didn,t fair as well. The whole was fair enough down the shore that it woulda submerged in the saltwater at 3/4 tide.

Appears to be a old stamp as it is backwards and would read correctly when pressed into something.

Any ideas on exactly what the S+J BUTTON and COCA COLA items are would be appreciated !!

I wouldn,t even begin to know where to look for value on this piece ... or for collectors.

I do know old COCA COLA stuff is quite valueable

The J & S thing is not a button, but a hand saw medallion, or what ever they are called exactly.

WAY TOO COLD FOR ME TODAY.

I think what you were searching for is a "saw nut"it's the general term most people use and identify with

nice old Coke printing plate though , I've found several but none with that kind of popularity or staying power, historically speaking

Can't say how many I found over the years, double digits for sure, you know it's one of the things that were a common thing to find around a farm or homestead, after all every guy has at least one saw in his toolbox

You definitely got a point there..everyone has a handsaw or 2.

What is the purpose of the saw nut ...and why is it decorative ?

Well, when you think about it, any quality tool that was crafted had thought and work put into the brand name ; decorative to show who made it and to make it stand out amongst the rest
As for use it simply was one if the bolts that held the blade in the wooden handle, and in the day, things like that were built to last not like sh,, that is produced today
call it a nameplate of the manufacturer or whatever, a trademark

Great find - especially that Coca-Cola piece!

OK...nice..thought maybe that was its purpose.....they definitely don,t make things like that nowadays !! Today it is mass produce and do it cheep as possible...no style.

Dunno where you would find a saw today with the royal crown on it .
