Hello all, Really haven't had much time lately to detect but did get out yesterday afternoon to an old cellar hole nearby that looked promising.

Came up with this token that says (obverse) B. MALONEY --PROPRIETOR ---(reverse) -- NATIONAL --499 THIRD AVE. ---1863

Also found an 1868 2-cent piece, pretty good shape, my 4th this year.

Any thoughts/background/value on the token would be appreiciated.

HH all!

Greg

Thank you for this thread.
Even though it's old, it helped me to identify a token I dug up last night. It's identical to yours; the Civil war store token from NYC.

No problem at all Garrett424, really happy something I wrote in 2006 came in handy and I haven't found a CW token since that day!!

Excellent find, congrats!

I'll be on my way back to the same spot in a few minutes.
I've dug an 1881 IH, an as yet undated large cent and the token all from the same field, not to mention a 14K earring hiding under a pull tab.
What a great spot this has turned out to be.
I haven't even hit it hard yet so I'm really psyched.

My only complaint right now is that the days are just too darn short this time of year and getting shorter fast. My hunts have to be short and sweet on workdays.

I really dread the end of daylight savings. I don't know what I'll do with myself.
I'm thinking LOTS of research for next spring (EARLY spring that is!!).

Oh, and thanks again.
You just never know how or WHEN you'll have a positive effect on someone or some thing.
I've come to geuninely appreciate this site. I've learned more here than I ever would have figuring everything out on my own through trail and error. I feel like an old pro after just three months.

Good Luck & HH
